Buttercake n Cream at Sunset Way, Clementi

It's mid week!! Two more days to Friday! Here's one lobang for you which is one more cafe-hope place in the West side - Clementi, Sunset Way. It's only 4 bus stops away from Clementi MRT. Super convenient, won't even take up to 15 minutes to reach there.

My friend and I went on a Sunday so thought that we should called and make a reservation. Do note that they do open up spaces for parties etc. Therefore, you might want to call and make reservation first. Book through online also possible.

To be honest, we ordered alot even though there's only 2 of us. LOL

First we had this appetizer, Sauteed Mushrooms ($9.90). According to my small research before visiting the cafe, this dish is a die-must-order and so we did. It could be my high expectations of it, and came with bit of disappointment. I would conclude it as a pretty normal dish. Shitake mushrooms are fresh enough but I find it too salty. The bread is hard too. =X

Next on the list: Truffle Fries ($9.00) I like this more than the sauteed mushroom. The fries are crispy enough and goes perfectly well together with the mayonaise sauce. Quantity wise, definitely worth it!

Here's our drink: Snowy Paddle Pop and Rainbow Lemonade ($8 each). I will not say it is wonderful but overall, it is not bad as it is refreshing enough!

Next: Char Grilled Beef Tender ($24.00) This is good, beef is fresh and nicely done. Recommended!! Cos normally i dont eat beef, but still i gave it a try - one mouth la! haha at least it doesnt have a very strong beef taste, phew! Tender enough too, so no worries! xD

Next: Sambal Prawn Aglio Olio($15.90). First of all, you won't be able to find such a flavour? for Aglio Olio and i would say it's rather Asian. Powerful taste of the sambal - Delicious! As for spicy level, acceptable for me but for those unable to take spiciness, this is quite a kick after a few mouths. A pretty big portion and with many prawns too! ~

You know what? After all these, we still ordered desserts!! HAHAHAHA

Strawberry Shortcake ($6.50): I would say it is really well presented on the table. Fresh strawberries with well layered cake, good! Just that the cake seems abit dry, it would be better if it could be more 'fluffy'.

Last but not least, we have the Paddle Pop Chocolate Bar ($5.00) And yes, literally Paddle Pop, the ice cream together with a chocolate bar which tasted like crunch? Perfect combination, and that is why the taste won't go wrong!

This is the exterior look of the cafe whereby they hold the parties and some other special occassions. So most of the time it will be closed for walk-in for a certain time period. But this place seems cosy, and looks like a small garden? Rare gem right, in Clementi.

In conclusion, i love this cafe and it is well located in Sunset way of Clementi. Not a hazzle at all! This cafe gives me a very warm and cosy feel, which is most importantly right! Prices are all rather reasonable too. Good recommendation for cafe-hopping in the West! Enjoy ~

Newly opened Korean Restaurant - Masizzim at Somerset 313

TGIF! Bothering where to go for dinner on a Friday night? You might want to consider the newly opened Korean restaurant in the town of Singapore - Somerset 313. So there won't be excuse of any inconvenience caused to travel over there. Oops! :x So let's go!

The entrance: There wasnt much of queue especially when we went on the weekday around 7pm, and it wasn't that bad. Near 8pm and that's when the crowd started pouring in too. Just a short note: the place is very noisy actually so you might have to speak louder than usual.

The restaurant is really spacious enough and well organized. Good!

This is only part of the menu which highlights the stews they offered. There is alot more variety.

Interesting way of ordering the stew(s) too:

1. Firstly, you choose the type of stew. (Chicken, pork and beef)

2. Flavour of the stew: Soy and Spicy and the spicy comes with different level ranging from level 1 to level 4. Do also note that for chicken stew, it only has the spicy ones.

3. It comes with Udon or Glass noodles

4. Extra toppings @ $2 each: Tobboki, noodles and/or cheese.

Each set do comes with a bowl of rice. You may upgrade to Kimchi Fried Rice or Spicy Cheese Kimchi Fried Rice at additional $6 instead.

Using this, they heat up the stew and allow it to boil and become this.......

Good portion of pork and you noticed that we added Tobboki($2) too. Do note that this is a portion for 2-3 pax. It is really more than enough in terms of the quantity. Definitely fulfilling enough. Tried Level 2 of the spiciness - I would say the 'effect' takes in after a few mouth of the sauce but i think I can still acecept it. So on the next try - it would be Level 3 instead. xD

Here comes the Spicy Cheese Kimch Rice. It is not spicy at all!! :( This seems pretty normal, but do eat it hot it would taste nicer though.

Next on the menu: Tomata Cheese Kimchi Pancake. Indeed according to all the recommendations, we tried this. This is good, real good. You are able to taste tomato for every mouth u take and it is crispy enough. Of course together with Kimchi and cheese, the combination won't go wrong! Personally, i like this the most!

Here's the steam egg that people been talking about. You are not wrong that every table ordered this item. I would say the quantity is well served. Just a side note is that it tasted too salty. Not sure does it varies? But I did feedback to the restaurant when making payment. If not, this would be a good recommendation!

The Masizzim Rice Balls ($8) and it has two kind of flavours: Tuna and Anchovy one. So we seen above, we tried the anchovy one. I like this idea of having to 'DIY" - meaning to wear the gloves and make your own rice ball. Regardless of any size, yes! I would ask for more chilli padi if possible for the next time. So it all depends on your skills in mixing all the ingredients well enough not. I like this too!

Here it is!! Should have place on a cleaner plate instead! :X

But on the first try, i really think this is not bad.

Lastly, the drink that we ordered - Sikhye Jar ($9.50). This traditional Korean beverage is brewed in-house with malt barley and rice. This might help to ease the fire from the spicy stew. Personally I don't like the taste, probably i find it too sweet! The taste..... seems 'unfamiliar' to me.

In conclusion, i truly enjoyed this Korean meal. Especially it's hard to find such a nice and reasonable korean restaurant in town. Definitely worth recommending to you guys! Daebak! :D

Saveur at Far East Plaza

Hello peeps! It's french cuisine this time round, something different from the previous posts. Saveur - which is located at town area, Level 1 of Far East Plaza. You will have to enter from the outside of the shopping mall, which means that you can't access it from inside. (One entrance only) Please pardon the not-nicely-taken photo of the signboard.

This time round, 3 of us have to wait about 15 minutes before getting a table. We reached there around 2pm, and the restaurant is crowded and with bit of queue. But luckily, the waiting time aint that long. Phew! The seating area is spacious enough too! Good ~

First dish: Duck Confit ($13.90). I have to first complement the mashed potato, it is nicely whipped up - savoury too! I would say that it has generally absorb all the essence in the whole dish. You can choose to go with the shitake mushroom sauce too, but salty though. Bit of fig chutney which tasted bit like plums? But according to Google, it's actually mixture of fruits and spices. Lastly, the poultry jus (duck) which means the natural way to enhance the flavours especially chicken, veal and lamb. Pretty reasonable amount of meat for one pax portion.

Next on the list: Foie Gras with creamy lentils, pickled pearl onion ($7.90) I have to first admit that it's my virgin try on this! I have a tiny bite of it, kinda overwhelmed by the taste? Don't really know how to desrcibe it, but it tasted abit bloody? powdery? Next closest item i had in mind is pig liver (which i don't eat too). Hahaha practially i tried cutting it, it felt like jelly, bouncy kind. Worth giving it a try though especially for first timers.

Next: Saveur Pasta with chicken tuna and sakura ebi. This tasted pretty normal, using Angel hair pasta - just nice level of savouring too. We ordered the small version which costs us $4.90 only.

Done with the main courses, how can we missed out desserts?

Salted Caramel Lava Cake with Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream ($12.90) First of all, the maldon sea salt caramel sauce is perfect! Strong taste of the caramel and warm enough to go with the cake. However, the cake was abit disappointing as i would describe it tasted more like kueh (too moist?) If not, this would be a 10/10 dessert already! This is defintely a good recommendation to go!

In conclusion, this french cuisine place is a worth a go! Affordable and good foods, why not? Definitely a place which can be good for gathering too, though weekend might be a bit more packed than usual. Do note that they do allow reservations too. hence if you are planning to go with a larger group of friends you may then consider. They have several outlets too.

The Little Prince Creamery at Toa Payoh Lor 6

Been fans of The Little Prince? A cafe dedicated to Le Petit Prince - located in a serene corner of Toa Payoh area.

Together with Halloween decorations, it did brighten up the festive mood too.

Let's look at their interior layout of the cafe, I would say it's spacious enough and cosy too! Good place for gathering, definitely! Check it out ~

Now let's place our orders:

And we have the daily special - Charcoal waffle with 3 scoops of ice-cream (Raspberry cheesecake, Cookies and Cream and Um-banana flavours) Personally i like the banana one the most, as it does bring out the well-blended banana taste. Not so sweet either. The rest taste normal though. Oh Yes, the waffle was too soft though, not crispy at all. It would be better to have bit of crispiness.

Also, I did ordered the "TLP Float" - Ice Rootbear with Vanilla Gelato too. I like the vanilla ice cream!!! Somehow, you know the taste for it won't go wrong one! Right?? Just a short note: The A&W rootbeer tasted abit too dilute already, probably too much ice.

In conclusion, it is quite a quiet place for groups of friend or family to chill. For couples too, no problem! Reasonable price in their menu too, especially it's situated in the neighbourhood area. Good cafe-hop area, definitely!

[P/S: It's only about 10 mins walk from Kim Keat Hokkien Mee and Curry fish head. !! ]

Blk 92, Toa Payoh Lor 4: Kim Keat Claypot Hokkien Mee and Ocean Curry Fish Head

Hello peeps! You can settle a fulfilling meal at Toa Payoh Lor 4, Blk 92. First of all, location is pretty accessible from both Toa Payoh and Bishan Mrt station too. You will not be able to miss the coffeeshop. At most 2-3 minutes walks away from bus stops. It is quite spacious so finding seats shouldn't be any problem unless peak hours.

So this time round, I went with 3 others friends. So 4 of us ordered a $20 Claypot Hokkien Mee. We waited less than 10 minutes, it's up!!

My reviews on this: Firstly, I think it is pretty expensive, though amounting to $5/pax but the portion is not there. Secondly, I tot the Sio Bak (fried pork belly) would be alot more crispier, but sad to say it's not. The taste is not there. Other than that, the prawns tasted fresh to me. In conclusion, a pretty normal taste of the hokkien mee.

BUT as this was my second visit there, the curry fish head looks really tempting. So I tried this time round. Approached the stall and uncle was asking for how many pax? "4 pax" and uncle steadily replied, "Ok. $25 one" and here it is! The stall is also kinda linked with the Economic rice stall too.

I would say this has a pretty unique taste - Sour. It is as if taste like Assam but i realised they put green chili in it. However, i think the curry lack of the fish taste as it is mostly overwhelmed by the other ingredients in it. For the portion, it is big enough so definitely worth the $25. Still worth giving it a try though.
