A Short Food Trip to Johor Bahru [2D1N Aug 2015]

Friday, August 21, 2015

Hello! I'm back ~ Recently went for a short 2D1N JB trip with friends, supposingly it is quite an eventful food trips but we were too nua (lazy) and basically visited only 3-4 places there.

Nonetheless, we can always visit JB again & that the Ringgit weaken now. But do note that the prices over there did increase up to 20%, especially in City Square JB.

Let's start, our first stop is Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory.

What i like about this - is that their breads and cakes all hot and instance out? Please pardon this english. LOL. So anyway I tried twice - Banana Cake and Red bean buns. Banana cake was fluffy enough but i find it abit too sweet. But in general, it's alot better than those selling in the bakery shop. As for red bean buns, the fillings are very thick. Just that once it cool down, you might want to heat it up by steaming it first before you eat it again.

Do note that you might have to queue for about 5-10 mins during weekend. But it's quite fast.

2nd stop (5 mins walk from Hiap Joo): IT Roo Cafe (Hainanese Chicken Chop)

It is well known for its chicken chop, so we decided to give it a try. The cafe has got two section, one with air con and without. Of course, in this weather the air con seats are rather fast taken up. Luckily we managed to get seats of four. And so sorry that i dint take photo of the interior design too. Roughly can sit about 25 pax inside the air con section though, so should be still fine.

Basically, there's 2 options for eating the chicken chop which is - Fried and Grilled. And we tried both. Preferably the grilled one. Fried one has a thicker powder, so less taste of the meat. Grilled one has a more favourable taste.

To be honest, at least in my personal opinion I dont think this is very nice until you die die must try. I'm sure there will be better one out there. Because the fried one has thicker powder taste (粉的味道太重了) , too little meat. It just doesnt taste right. Grilled one is slightly better because at least its not really covered with flour and with the sauce, it does help abit.

This is the breakdown of the orders. ($15RM for one) Reasonable price for its portion too.

Something off track: We then checked in at KSL Resort (or Serviced apartment). And we stayed on the 22nd floor with awesome city view. See! (With wide lens)

3rd stop: Hiang Kee Seafood @ Taman Tebrau (大马花园)

And because I blogged before, I shall not say too much. Let the pictures talk about it.

1. Salted Egg Yolk Crab (best recommended)
2. Chilli Crab
3. Fried Mantou
4. 奶白 (Vegetables)
5. Hotplate Sizzling Tofu with Egg
6. Char Kway Teow (Stall no. 61) - $5 RM
7. 4 Glasses of Sugar Cane - $12 RM
8. Cockles - $10 RM

together with 2 rice, with only the seafood it only costs us $207 RM for 4 Pax. Totally worth it! Please try if you are near that area. Its about 10 mins walk from KSL, and if are taking cab without meter then it should cost about $8/$10 RM.

Additional Points: If you like Korean food and ever tried the Bornga in Singapore, you may also try the one at City Square at JB. Comparing the price, it is alot more worth.
