Chiangmai Trip - Day 2, Part 1 [Wat Rong Khun aka White Temple]

Friday, November 29, 2013

Wakes up and shine for Day 2! For this Chiangmai trip, all of us are at our virgin trip to there. And many attractions required long distance travelling.

Therefore, we found a super good freelance tour guide. For more info - you may contact him via http://www.neiltourguide.com/. His name is Neil, and strongly recommend him as he speaks good english and flexible with arrangements too. You may discuss your ideal itinerary with him and he would advise you further from there.

So we went Wat Rong Khun aka White Temple in the morning, then off to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Temple then ending the day at Sunday Night Market. Mind the few places a day because travelling from a place to another takes about 2-3 hours average.

This was taken when I was in the chartered van. This was how a chinese sayings go "无忧无虑“ - which means carefree in english. So relaxing right ~ Such a beauty.
Arriving at the Wat Rong Khun, walking in.
Its free admission anyway, but please do take note of the attire too.
This was the founder of the temple - Chalermchai Kositpipat.
For more info on it - you may refer to http://www.watrongkhun.org/. He is still around in the temple, and might have a chance to bump into him too.
This was found on the net:

" Situated in Chiang Rai province, Wat Rong Khun (commonly referred to as ‘The White Temple’) is still a work in progress after more than 10 years in construction. When the Temple is finished it will consist of 9 separate buildings. Its main distinguishing feature is its white colour inlaid with mirrored glass. The white colour of the temple represents the Lord Buddha’s purity while the white glass stands for the Lord Buddha’s wisdom that shines brightly all over the earth. The Whole project was instigated by Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and is still being constructed under his guidance. He says himself he will probably still be working on the project until the day he dies. The project started out as the construction of a beautiful new bot (convention hall) for the temple. After a couple of years of construction the bot began to attract both Thai and foreign visitors who came to admire the intricate detailing. It was then that the project began to grow. And since then all the old building s of the temple have been pulled down are being replaced with new. The size of the temple land has tripled to accommodate the new constructions of Wat Rong Khun. "

The meaning of the temple -
"To build a temple like Heaven. It is paradise on Earth, the human world can touch. "
Anyway, this was taken using camera and without any filter. #justsaying Because this is awesome right! It just seems so heavenly, don't you think so? *thumbs up*
There is a good angle for you to take photo with.
Entrance in - He believes that everyone when died will pass through hell first before going to Heaven

This is a place for wishing well.
They were saying you will first make a wish and then toss the coin into the well,
and if it dropped inside the 'paragon' - your wish will come true. You may give it a try too.
This is a wishing 'plate' too. After writing down, you may hang it up on a tree nearby.

P/S: These are the lost and found items. LOL
Some parts of the temple are still under construction.

You can also enter a gallery where the paints are for sale etc and souvenirs too, can go in and take a look.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further details of the trip and/or my itinerary too. Cheers!
